Dr Sengupta graduated from the University of Calcutta and trained in histopathology and cytology at PGI, Chandigath, India obtaining his MD in Pathology in 1973.  Dr Sengupta was admitted as a fellow of the RCPA in 1990.  For more than seventeen years he served the Faculty of Medicine, University of Papua New Guinea and was Associate Professor/Head of Pathology from 1991-1996.  During this period he was an Honorary Consultant in histopathology and cytology at Port Moresby General Hospital.  In Australia he worked as a consultant with NorthWest Pathology, Tasmania and Dorevitch Pathology, Albury, NSW.  At Albury he was also a Conjoint Senior Lecturer in Pathology with the University of NSW.  Dr Sengupta has had specialised training in dermatopathology at NYU Medical Centre (USA), fine needle aspiration cytology at Karolinska Hospital (Sweden) and general cytopathology including needle aspiration at the University of Pennsylvania (USA).  Dr Sengupta is a Fellow of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, member of the International Academy of Pathology and the Australian Society of Cytology.  He was a contributing author to the book Oral Diseases in the Tropics published by Oxford Medical Publications.  He has published 58 scientific papers.  His special interests include histopathology, tropical pathology, cytopathology and fine needle aspiration cytology.
