Chemical Pathology
MBBS, MAACB, FRCPA
Heather has worked at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Flinders Medical Centre and the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, including three years of research as a recipient of the Fauldings Lyn Wrigley Scholarship in Breast Cancer. During this period she cloned and sequenced the apolipoprotein D gene. This provided valuable experience in current molecular biological and tissue culture techniques and a better understanding of the potential role of these methodologies in diagnostic pathology.
Her areas of interests include tumour markers, quality control and medical education. In this last area, her interest has led to a pilot program for AMA Dr YES/Youth Friendly Doctor training in South Australia. She has also co-authored several textbooks for students and junior medical staff. Dr Cain joined Gribbles Pathology as a sessional consultant in chemical pathology early in 2006.
